With an eye toward offering slimmer products,

Microsoft will use a bare-bones version of the Windows kernel, called MinWin, as the starting point for the development of future

products, including Windows 7 and Windows Server.
Too bad they didn't start this a few years ago! Also, they should look at
their bloated Office Suite as well. Do you all feel that MS runs bloatware?

BTW, I use OpenOffice :)

ahh so true!!

neooffice ftw! (mac port of open office - I cba with x11!)

The thing that gets me is that they actually want you to pay $300 for bloatware. :nono: (I like these smilies )

Will google offer a competitive OS by that time? I would guess that Linux will really be off and running mainstream by 2010.

It's about time MS did something radical.. they couldn't carry on growing Windows forever. But have they left it too late? Mac and Linux are on the rise.... could it be the beginning of the end for Windows world domination?? :)

I'm relying on the MSDN for this - I'll still be at uni in 2010 so gimmie gimmie freeee :D
