I didn't want to post this, but I really need to share it with someone.

I got mugged today.
I went out to my favourite cafe to get a coffee and read the newspapers. It was like 8:30 in the morning. When it was time to pay the bill I rememberd that I didn't take any money so I told the waiter that I'll just go to a cash machine and return to pay. He insisted that I pay next time when I come. I guess, I should have listened to him.
I got to the cash machine (it's like 10 meters from the cafe, 2 blocks from my building in the middle of the town) and decided to take around $100 cause I needed to pay the telephone bill later today. I took the card out of the machine an waited for the money to come out when this guy came rushing at me with a knife. I couldn't believe it! It was like in a movie.
I tried to get out of his way. He got to the machine, took the money and advanced towards me. He tried to stab me but only nicked my arm.
And ran away. I went back to the cafe, the owner called the police and an ambulance. So an hour later the police are taking my information and I got 5 stitches on my arm. Arm hurts like hell.
But I'm not really mad. I feel extremely stupid.
Who gets mugged and stabbed in the middle of the day in the center of a town.
Of course, the police said that they'll try to catch him but they don't guarantee that they can do anything about the money. I replied that I don't care about the money. I needed that money but I'd rather loose all my money and know that this crazy idiot won't be going through town stabbing people.
Who stabbs you for a $100?
Anyway my nerves are on overdrive and I really needed to share this with someone. I hope you guys don't mind me doing so.
Thanks!
Dino

I was too rational to be scared for myself. There's an ambulance down the road. There were people close. So I kinda thought I'd be OK no matter what.
But there are two schools in the area and lots of kids.
So I guees I feel bad for not stopping the idiot.

Melky,
What happened to you is terrible, I am please you are okay though and I think one would have loved to stop that bastard but it may not be a good idea.
I hope this will not happen again but if it does its better not to be a hero, if the guy stabbs you in a very sensitive part of the body, it could be disastrous so do NOT BE A HERO. I think you have done the righ thing by just giving him the money, you will get other money but you cannot get another life. THe guy is probably high on drugs or something.

I can imagine you are shaken by this experience.

I guess you're right Temi.

This wasn't the first time I got stabbed. A few years back some drunk guy in a night club pulled out a knife and started chasing people at random. Some were hurt badly. I got only a little cut. So the knife part didn't scare me.
But I was shocked that someone would actually attack you with a knife for such a small amount of money.

And you're right. He did look high. I guess there are no limits to what a junkie would do to get high.
Lesson learned.
Btw, thanks for your support guys! It means a lot!

This is one of the sad part of City living, smillar thing happened to me when I lived in London.

Its all because of drugs. No one is that stupid or poor nowadays to mug people in broad daylight. But drug habits are a totally different story. See it a lot in London in the news, Crack Addict does this, Heroin Addict does that... Its a depressing story.

Glad you're OK though, that's the main thing! :)

Sadly some people are very desperate :(

Thanks for your support guys!

Just to let you know, the guy has been caught this morning while trying to rob a pharmacy. The Croatian Police caught him without any problems.
I also got some inside information (since my father works as liason for the Croatian Ministry of the Interior) that he will be charged and prosecuted for several thefts and break-ins in Varazdin and the surronding teritory. They've been looking for him for 2 months.
I feel a lot better now.

This is good news, crazy guy like that needs to be taken off the street. Any word or posissilities of recovering you cash from him? (he already probably spent it)

I'll need to go to the Police on Monday to identify him (although I've witnessed his capture) and they'll give me the details, but I was told that the chances of recovering the cash are almos non-existent.
Don't really care, as you've said money always comes. I'm just glad he's off the streets.
