It may not matter if your business in making money from the additional resources --but it is like giving a hosting company a blank check unless you limit the increases intelligently. We used racks of production, database, and file storage servers with load balancing. Mostly co-lo with dedicated fiber out.

Most people here will do just fine with a VPS. Maybe, 1 dedicated server.
