I think it is most effective for you if you carry on using standard HTML layout. If you use tables it will hurt your brain. It makes no difference to the success or otherwise of a page, unless you are relying on SEO in which case tables might make it a tiny bit less search engine friendly and certainly won't help with the semantic mark-up.
