Do you think having a premium domain name contributes to brand success? Or is it just a nice-to-have?

I would like to explore the role of domain names in brand building. Do you think having a premium domain name is essential to brand success, or is it just a nice-to-have?

I see many well-known brands have domain names that are short, memorable, and relevant to their business or brand, and these domain names seem to have helped them build strong brand recognition and increase customer loyalty.

However, for some emerging brands, having the perfect domain name can be a big expense, and some even choose creative domain suffixes or domain names with different spellings. So how much of an impact can a domain name actually have in the process of brand success? Is it worth investing a lot of money to buy an ideal domain name?

a great domain name definitely helps with brand building, but it’s not always essential for success. A short, memorable, and relevant domain can improve brand recognition, trust, and even SEO. Big brands often secure premium domains because they reinforce credibility and are easier to market.

that said, plenty of successful companies started with less-than-ideal domains and still built strong brands (e.g., Flickr, Reddit, or even TikTok). Creativity with domain suffixes (.io, .ai, .co, etc.) or unique spellings can work just as well if the brand itself is strong.

for startups and emerging brands, I’d say it’s not worth breaking the bank for a premium domain early on. It’s more important to build a solid product, audience, and marketing strategy. If growth takes off, you can always invest in a premium domain later.

Do you have a specific brand or project in mind where you're debating a domain choice?
