domain propagation

Has anyone noticed that new domain names only take a few hours to be active. ? last year it took 48 hours ..

Your observation is correct, both Nominet (UK domain name registry) the IANA or whatever the organisation that maintain TLD root name servers made changes that enable domain propagation to speed up a few months ago, its kind of nice that you do not have to wait 48 hours any more :)

Your are right Ken,
Some domain registrar have not made the necessary changes, they need to reset their DNS servers to pull up to date info from the root dns severs more frequently than they used to do in the past.

I did notice this. When I set up zachdexter.com, the DNS propogation probably took about 50 hours. However, it only took about 12 with dexview.com, which was registered late last year. Very interesting consider that they were both originally registered with GoDaddy.

I made the mistake of purchasing my domain name when I purchased my webhosing account with Canaca.com. It took forever for DNS to propogate, somewhere around a week or so I believe.

Thats Canaca ;-)

All 3 of my sites have been down for over 5 hours now. I finally got a response from them on the emergency e-mail. They told me everything was fine, which it isn't. I'm suprised my avatar is working, maybe I uploaded it to this site.

Right

You are right, this depends also of the registrar, I meet cases when a new domain has propagate in hours, if I remember well arround 10 hours.

They are giving me some grief, the problem is that the package has so much potential if the servers were more responsive. I don't think they even know what load balancing is.
