Free Directories - Do they help?

Hi all

There are thousands of directories all over the Internet today that are offereing free submissions. Does submitting to free directories really help in improving PR?

Hello,

I think it depends on if the links from the directories are direct, and how many links there is on one page. Also it depends on your site's PR. If your site is 'new' then adding it to few directories helps getting listed and getting any PR faster. But I am not sure how it works for websites that already have some PR...

Example: exampledirectory.com was once a PR0 site and you decide you do not want to submit your site to this directory because it has a PR0. Today exampledirectory.com is a PR9 and has a higher PR then your site, but is no longer offering free submissions.
Don't you wish you had submitted to this directory when you had the chance?

I think they do help increase PR because most directory may be PR0 but owners are always promoting them so they would have acquired PR, its just not showing yet so the anser to you question is yes, even PR0 can help improve you PR
