this is a great idea though temi, could make it a part of the project Duke suggested in the General Webmaster Talk area!

If you want to do it the other way then I would need to look at vbb here and find what it uses. I imagin there will be a boolean string which shows people as logged on/off, either that or session variables. I'm guessing which methods they may use, let me know if you want me to look into it on a test server here.

Here ya go:
Setup Usergroup Registered so it cannot post in the restricted Forums.
Create a new Usergroup that can post in the Restricted forums.
Create a Promotion that Promotes Users from Registered to additional Members of this Usergroup based on Posts.
Done.
(promotions lives in usergroup manager)
Thats if you want to handle it by forums anyway.
Be careful doing anything like this though (whether done through the forum or not) as you may find peopl posting crap (or more than usual) just to hit the post count.

I'm not sure I understand what's actually going on here. Instead of hacking VB (which prolly negates any responsibility from them in case your site goes down or possibly opens you to exploits) can you not create a rank that recognizes when you've reached a certain level and allows you access to hidden parts of the site? Also, create an active member download area that requires you to login each time to download from and have it session controlled.
