Google Dance ?

Looks like there is a google dance going on at present, has any one noticed any significant PR changes?

The only thing I've noticed over the last two updates is that all my modules (including forums) are climbing up to between PR 4 and 5.

I'm just hoping to hold onto PR 5 at Lifesupporters.com because I've done nothing in the way of link exchanging over the past 6 - 8 months. The sad part is that I used to be at PR 6 but I actually think I lost PR due to my sites continually being offline. I'm not 100% sure this is the case but it was odd to go from PR 6 to PR 5 even though it was my most active linking period at the time.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I've been a webmaster for close to 2.5 years now and I still don't have a clue about what really influences google pagerank.

There has certainly been a Google dance. PR on this main page of this forum has disappear, a few of my sites with low PR has gained additional PR.

In response to you not knowing the significance of PR, its not carved in stone, it changes from time to time, over all, PR is less important today than a few years ago.

PR is a simple and complicated beast at the same time. Firstly the ONLY way to get PR is through links. anchor text, poularity etc have NOTHING to do with it.
PR is a mathematical value of a page , calculated by the sum of the value of the pages that point to it. Thes values of the inbound links are effected by two things
1. The dampening effect placed on links by Google . This is normally around 15%, so the total amount of link voting a page can do is 85% of its own Value. This is NOT to say that it WILL vote that much, but that it CAN.

2. The volume of links on the anchor page (the page that points to you). The calculation is
Anchor page PR - the dampening factor divided by the volume of links.

eg. PR10 -15% = PR8.5 with 100 links 'could' carry PR 0.085 to your page!

That is PR at its most simple!
