Aparently, Google's share of the search marketing has gone up, it now stands at 64.1 % in March, it was 63.9 percent in February.
This figure was from Hitwise.
Hitwise based this finding on the surfing habits of 10 million U.S. Web users, the figure globally is also quite ideantical to the US stats.

That is bad news, as much as I love Google I think over 80% of the market share for one company is a bad thing.

Google the giant. I have to say that they had brilliant business concept. 80% is very high, but they worked for it. 4 colours, 6 fonts brand and worth billions.

I HATE Google with a vengence. Google are basically taking over online marketing. They will in time kill every single way of making money, as they will own the monopoly on search.

So far online advertising has been slaughtered with adwords, then they decide who can and can't advertise (throw your site out organically, as it is not good enough, but hapy to send visitors to you if you pay them ;)

NOW they are taking over affiliate marketing. Within 18 months 2 years you will have no option other than to use google as your affiliate partner for a LOT less than CJ etc are currently paying you.

Google local is killing local directories as they are showing local ads anyhow.

Google need to be slapped down, and I am not really sure how they are getting away with what they are getting away with as they are close to having a monopoly on search in the UK.

Like I said earlier, I dislike how they dominate in the UK but I also applaud them as the companies that could mount effective challenge to them are sleeping, it too Yahoo time to develop YPN and even that is not available in the UK yet.

You would have through when Yahoo bough overture they will run with developing and effective adword challenger but no, they are still half asleep and as for MSN, they are completely hopeless which give Google a breathign space to expand their lead even more, good luck to Google but like you said, its not good for search engine or search engine marketing consultants as if you get it wrong in Google, the project is screwed
