There is rumour that Google has increased the amount it pays webmasters for displaying adsense in a bid to stop webmasters flocking adsense rival Yahoo is launching soon.
Competition is certainly a good thing :

google have recently introduced a series of enhancements to the adsense programme that has resulted in people earning more, rather than increasing the % paid.

Ummm,
How much did google pay you for this PR OWG :). And I take it this enhancement has nothing to do with Yahoo Publisher network being on he horizon

Now Temi I never said that LOL. I think this enhancement has EVERYTHING to do with another big player (or two) ;) /<cough MSN> coming on the scene. They have though altered the way they disable ads which is pushing up the minimum click cost, and altered how many ads and which as they show by way of performance. So in a nutshell you are getting better quality ads at a higher cost.

They may also be paying more though, who knows ;)

Thanks for that clarification OWG. No word on MSN joining the fray yet but it will be excellent if they do. Monopoly or even duopoly is bad for business. The old one among us will remember when BT , British Gas and BA used to be the only planer in their filed, it was not very nice back then.

Does that help explain why the bots have been all over my site this month? Google crawls all the time but they are responsible for over 10,000 hits this month.

I can confirm bids are now on the increase, as tons of keywords are kept live in the system as long as a minimum (really high, but who gives a sh*t) bid is met.

Look, if this is against Google's TOS, I don't give a chit. Here's what's changed from the advertisers standpoint:

We've simplified our keyword status system.

Your keywords will now either be active (triggering ads) or inactive (not triggering ads). Quality remains the most important factor in your keywords' performance. Each keyword will now have a minimum bid that is based on the quality of your keyword and ad text. If your maximum CPC doesn't meet this minimum bid, your keyword will be listed as inactive.

What you should do differently:

If a keyword is listed as inactive, improve its quality through optimization, delete it, or raise that keyword's maximum CPC to the minimum bid indicated. (Raising the bid will re-activate the keyword.) If your keyword is active, you don't need to do anything.
