There is this rumour that Google is creating its own Instant Messaging software, any one heard about it?

Nope, this is the first it's made it to my ears. Why do we need more chat software?

However, if they make it free, make it so it has good codecs and you can chat with a roomfull of buddies as game online then I'd be happy.

i think we don't need more chat software but this article on the BBC mentions that they want to be able to use it as an interface to join together all the rest and that it's based on Jabber. That would be more useful if they do it.
