Hello,

Since this forum looks pretty cool I decided to join.

I've tried running two campaigns some time ago, and after doing a couple months of research and learning all about traffic, funnels and affiliate marketing in general.

I think that I'm ready to finally launch a campaign I've been planning for a few weeks.
It's in the make money online niche, and I chose native ads as my source of traffic.

I feel I've gone above and beyond with research, I know my audience well and identified (hopefully most) mistakes I've made previosly. My goal for now is getting this campaign profitable, from what I've learned other affiliates managed to run this offer at a decent scale.

With that said, what were the reasons your first campaigns failed?

I personally did no real audience research and chose my offer basing on epc shown on the affiliate network with no concern for the continuity of message between my creative and the offer page.

That is the hardest thing to do --really understand and audience and it's intent.
Why is the epc shown of an offer really that relevant when it is assumed to be an authentic aggregation of only the traffic sent to that offer? It isn't.

epc of your own known traffic sources, and the source's segmentation; is only really comparative of the traffic segments that you are using for that same offer.
With that said, what were the reasons your first campaigns failed?
  1. Bad of over-saturated offers (some were memberships)
  2. Non Human traffic from ad networks 70%-10% varies widely both by network and type of ad traffic.

Welcome to AffiliateFix!

what were the reasons your first campaigns failed?

That is assuming my first campaigns failed.
They did not because my first campaigns were in 1998 by email and long before the spam laws.

Today, we experienced marketers have many failed campaigns with offers we have never promoted before because we launch them with the basics and then look for the weaknesses. We then refine them, split test them, select the probable candidates for success, then relaunch them with refinements. We continue the use our trackers to give us the actionable data to scale them fast before our campaigns get copied or the offers get burnt out.

As An Affiliate
With affiliate programs though, things are a bit different because typically affiliate programs are long term investments with affiliates. Most of the time, we build long term content sites relevant to the niche and product. These are ongoing projects with new content developed and deployed on a schedule and frequent.

As A Publisher
As a publisher today, use an intelligence platform to zero in on what offers are killing it now and make a similar landing page to what is working as well as use the traffic source(s) delineated in the intel platform. Always split test everything including creatives, landers, angles, hooks, and triggers. Even color schemes can make a huge difference.

Oh, and one more thing, stop thinking of campaign failure. With network offers, it is rare, even for a seasoned publisher, to get it absolutely dialed in when launching a new campaign set. We launch the campaigns as quickly as possible to get the tracking data. The campaigns don't fail when launching them for the first time, you are buying data on the first and subsequent campaign launches and refinements. This is a data driven business. Make your tracker your best friend and master it!
