H1/H2/H3 tags in Blogger

I am having a bit of an issue with my h1/h2/h3 tags. This is a long one so please bare with me.

Basically like nearly everyone else, my aim is to set my post title as h1, turn off h2 as side headings and choose h2/h3 tags manualy in with each post.

From doing a bit of reearch I expected this to be a fairly easy procedure. I deleted the h1 in the header section and replaced it with a ", I did the same for h4 with blog comments as I definatly don't want that.

But here is the odd part. As you can see im my template copy below. Side Headings is set to h2 because if I delete the h tag (as I don't want google using my sidebar headings as h2) it changes to a different colour and "bigger". I really want my heading colour and size to stay the same while removing the h2 tag.

Secondly, with the post title. Obviously I want this to be set to h1 and if I change it on the blogger template from h3 to h1, the size of the post title actually get's smaller!?!?! surely this is supposed to do the opposite.

So as it stands, I have kept post title as h3 but made it bigger using font increase as naturally I want this to be the biggest and kept my blog title as h1 as otherwise I would be without a h1 tag, with random h2 and h3 tags...
