Well seeing as I live directly across the road from this school I thought I would post this
Pretty shocking how some mothers will defend their schools
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/educatio...-attacked-with-bleach-over-school-merger.htmlim Keefe, 42, is the head of Arnold School in Blackpool, where fees are almost £9,000 a year.
Alumni of the 115-year-old school include a Nobel Prize-winner, the founder of Jaguar Cars and several sports stars, including Jimmy Armfield, the former England footballer.
Arnold recently agreed to merge with a rival local school, King Edward VII and Queen Mary School, in nearby Lytham St Annes.
However, the merger has proven unpopular with many parents and pupils.
Opponents alleged that the Arnold trustees were “selling off” the school; that they could earn £25million in salaries and dividends, that tuition fees would rise; and that the governors of both schools would make considerable financial gains.
It was also claimed that Mr Keefe, who will be the head of the new school, was appointed without regard to the application of Robert Karling, the head of KEQMS.
Part of the speculation has been fuelled by Arnold’s admission to the United Church Schools Trust, an organisation headed by the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Carey of Clifton, who was on the panel which appointed the new head.
UCST, a not-for-profit charitable organisation, has been accused of “ruthless” profiteering and described as an “asset-stripper”.
All the claims were denied by the schools’ officials in a letter to parents intended to tackle “the spreading of rumour and untruth – either maliciously or through misunderstanding”.
UCST told The Daily Telegraph that no Arnold governor, KEQMS governor or UCST trustee would benefit financially from the merger.
More than 80% of teachers at KEQMS were said to have voted against the merger and one teacher said: “You expect them to be Christian, but they’re just ruthless.
“They’re not bothered about the casualties. They just want to get their hands on Arnold School and flog it. We all know there are going to be redundancies.”
The merger was confirmed last Friday and at around 7am on Tuesday, while it was still dark, Mr Keefe answered a knock on his door.
The unidentified attacker hurled what is believed to have been bleach at his face and fled.
Mr Keefe required hospital treatment for inflamed skin and the damage to his eyes but suffered no permanent damage.
Arnold School's chairman of governors, Jerry Wooding, said: “Please be assured we have no reason to suspect this was anything other than an isolated incident.”
