I was made a check on my system with Microsoft AntiSpyware Version: 1.0.613 when I found some spyware threat in Alexa toolbar. Did any of you have this experience before?

Correct Paul,
But average user does not know the difference between the two, they will rather have neither on their PC

Right, Temi. But like most, 'free' programs, the adware comes along with the free service/program. Read the program's EULA. So no adware, no freebie.

A lot of times you can disable the "extras" when installing but you have to be sure to always chose Custom Installation. When you chose Express Install, you get everything whether you want it or not. Often times, free software loads all kinds of extra crap on your computer that your unaware of and it usually takes a scan to bring it up.

As for the Alexa spyware I'm assuming it's a stat tracker or something that prolly reports every click back to Alexa.com. Personally I'd get rid of it but I'm a bit paranoid about spyware and adware.

Well it's best to err on the side of caution IMHO, if you don't trust it, get rid of it.
