I run a network of sites with 1m+ uniques and 10m+ views. Where to start with ads?

I run a variety of websites in entertainment (movies, anime, books etc). For the last 30 days, I have: 1m unique views 10m+ visits

It's about time to start monetizing these sites. While I am super senior when it comes to creating massive platforms, my experience in anything to do with ads is absolutely non-existent.

So mind the newbie questions:

  1. Approximately what type of revenue should I expect with these numbers? As in, a ballpark of absolute low to high.
  2. Which network do you suggest I connect with for best rates?
  3. What type of ads should I start with? What works in 2025...
  4. What are your newbie mistakes?
  5. To people who run platforms with these numbers, what are some insider tips?
Thanks a million for some help!

Edit: majority of traffic is from English speaking countries and 40 percent of the content is long-form.

that’s an impressive amount of traffic - definitely time to start monetizing. With 1M unique visitors and 10M+ visits, your revenue potential depends on ad formats, user engagement, and the networks you use. Ballpark estimates:
Approximately what type of revenue should I expect with these numbers? As in, a ballpark of absolute low to high.
absolute low: $1K-$3K/month (if monetized poorly with basic display ads)
mid-range: $10K-$30K/month (if optimized with premium networks, tier-1 traffic, and good ad placements)
high-end: $50K+/month (if leveraging direct ad sales, video ads, and premium partnerships)
Which network do you suggest I connect with for best rates?
AdSense & Ezoic (easy setup, but lower earnings)
Mediavine or Raptive (higher-tier ad networks with good CPMs)
Outbrain or Taboola (native ads for extra revenue)
Adsterra or MGID (for display + pop ads)
What type of ads should I start with? What works in 2025...
video ads (CPMs are way higher than standard banners)
native ads (blend well with content and get higher CTRs)
affiliate links (if your audience engages with book/movie-related products)
subscription models (if engagement is strong, premium content can work)
What are your newbie mistakes?
overloading your site with ads. It kills UX, slows load times, and lowers CPMs due to low engagement. Start with a few ad placements and optimize based on performance.
what’s your audience engagement like? High time-on-site and repeat visits could open doors for direct sponsorships, which pay even better than networks

You have good traffic. For topics like anime and movies I would recommend you use AdMaven, probably the best company to monetize this type of content currently. The CPM you get will depend on the type of traffic, but in general it is usually quite competitive.

Regarding advertising formats, you can include popunder + push notifications and perhaps use interstitials or smart links to generate more income. In any case, when you register as a publisher you are assigned an account manager to answer questions or to optimize the ads.

If you don't want to change the look of the site and take up space in blocks, then push notifications are probably the first thing to start. Try *removed by Admin* or propush, I like them the most in this area so far.

Hey!

For 2025, I’d recommend starting with video ads and native ads—they perform really well for entertainment content. Sticky ads are great for mobile traffic, and affiliate ads can bring in extra revenue if you recommend books or merch.

Also, check out AdMaven. They offer multiple ad formats like push, pop, and native ads that work well for high-traffic sites.

Keep it simple at first, test a few formats, and see what fits best for your audience!
