ITV hopes the deal will boost its online presence
Broadcaster ITV has agreed to buy Friends Reunited, the website which has 15 million users and brings together old school friends, for £120m ($208m).

It seems to me like an unusual move for a conventional TV company like ITV, but I guess from a business point of view they exist to make money from advertising so its a natural extension of that.
most established traditional media like TV and Newspapers are losing ad revenue to websites this day anyway, so its a question or if you can beat them join them
I think its a sound move! Apart from the BBC what television company has any renowned web presense? What with the increasing bandwidth we are going to see over the next two years 8 meg etc the mount of online television broadcasts will increase, I think this was a sound investment by an organisation that needs to compete on the web to market itself. £120m is too cheap in my estimation, they got a bargain. Clever business me thinks.
