Hi everyone,

I have been working on a blog that is becoming a very popular niche and recently applied to a merchant who carries many related products. The company's affiliate program is run by a third party and it was taking quite some time to get approved , about two weeks, Linda told me that this wait time is probably a bit long. Anyway, I finally got approved. The wait, as it turns out, was due to the fact that this merchant is getting over 1,000 applications / day. This merchant carries about 50% products in my niche with remainder the outside of my respective field. However, I was just astounded that it is getting 1,000 requests /day. How saturated is affiliate marketing getting?

Is this application figure indicative of a blown out niche? Any thoughts , experiences? I understand that my situation is unique and my success will most likely be a function of how much time I put into my site, but what is a general analysis of this situation by some seasoned pros? Any response appreciated. Thanks

Was the program on CJ? Have a feeling it was. If so yes it's possible, however that still seems pretty high - could possibly be a bit of an exaggeration to make up an excuse for the delay. 95% of affiliates or possibly more on CJ, apply to programs and never even put up a link - or put up some banners but never make any sales. CJ and other large networks get tons of people applying that just don't have either the time, the skill or the motivation to make it. But you do, if you set your mind to it.

There are some ways to get an idea how many affiliates are actually out there promoting the program, which could give you an idea about how competitive it really is for this merchant.

Thanks for the insight

Hi Linda,

Your feedback is much appreciated. The numbers do seem a bit high for this merchant; If we do some simple math on the daily apps to make them yearly apps, it gets to some pretty lofty affiliate figures. Your experience is a real asset to all members , those stats you gave me are quite eye opening. I am very focused and hope to report back some steady sales soon. My fear right now is that I may not be able to get steady traffic as a newbie without resorting to PPC initially, , we will see.

Thanks again.

To answer your initial question.........

the program was Linkshare, maybe the surge has something to do with their new payout schedule.
