How to run a successful online business means you already have one.

If you ask your friend Google, you will find plenty of examples on "how to start an online business".

If not I suggest you start a site about your journey to start a successful online business, sharing all your success (and failure, so other affiliate marketers dont need to repeat those mistakes, thats where you can add real value)

I've been in this business for a couple of decades and manage to be a noob of some sort everyday. We all ask questions, don't apologize for it.

Okay, but I am sure I am not the only one here to see the oxymoron in this statement. You are brand new to affiliate marketing, but you feel the need to build a site about running online businesses. So, my question is, do you have any experience at running an online business?

Well, free traffic aside, I'm just going to jump into the advice part.

You are new to affiliate marketing, but I can see from subsequent questions you are new to online business as well. Focusing on something as gargantuan as the make money online or how to run successful online is a very poor decision. You have no experience and you would be expected to build content from personal knowledge and experience that you do not possess. Get a set of brains on marketing online or running an online business before stepping into these two particular niches is my advice. These two niches may prove to be among the toughest to compete in and there are tons of advertising restrictions all over the net regarding these two niches as well as a load of FTC compliance statutes and policies to contend with. Many of the top niches do have similar aspects to contend with, you will just be facing a crap load more in the MMO niches.

Newbies need to start with the basics. A couple of affiliate programs to start with or a few identical or similar offers from a couple of networks. You must learn to crawl before you walk, and to walk before you run!

You will need to select a sub-niche to start with like something in the primary niche categories like the Health & Wellness field, Relationships, Financial, Education, eCommerce, Technology, Pets, and so many more. They all have a lot of competitiveness, which is good for a noob. You need to learn to compete, but most important is that these are niches with 100's of sub-niches that have loads of great offers to promote. You will find these offers in the affiliate networks.

You need:
1. Get a VPS
2. Select a vertical
3. Select a tracker
4. Select a couple of networks and get your approval
5. Select a traffic source
6. Create a schedule for researching, learning (training), and working. This is a business, treat it as such!
7. Create a budget for every expense (daily, weekly, monthly)
8. Be very active in this forum by researching, asking questions, helping others when you are able.

Take it by the numbers, follow the advice of those that been through the beginning stages and you will learn to earn very quickly. Don't follow the advice of those that have been down the noob trail and you will give up before you really have a chance to succeed.

I think the main thing to keep in mind is that creating a website won't make you money.

Creating a website is something any person can do, but driving traffic efficiently, selecting the right offers to promote, using the right strategies for generating leads and sales, etc are completely different things... and those are the things that can make you money.

My advice is that you first choose a specific strategy that you want to follow. Then, study it and start testing small. In fact, this is another important thing: choose something that you can test small before you commit a lot of time.

Once you have a more specific plan in mind (on paper would be even better), you can start looking for examples and case studies that will be really useful for you.
