What are some great ways to reach out and start effective affiliate campaigns? What are best ways to advertise to attract affiliates to the program?

I'm looking for feedback and past experiences with merchants who worked on affiliate campaigns in the herbal supplement niche. Best practices, success stories, line of direction or steps to take to help our business take advantage as well as offer affiliates the opportunity to make good money off our program.
