Marks and Spencer is to begin charging its food shoppers for carrier bags. Customers will have to pay 5p for plastic bags, with the money raised going to an environmental charity.
Chief executive Sir Stuart Rose said the company wanted to "make it easy for our customers to do their bit to help the environment".

good idea I say. it is things like this where you have a choice and can do something to help the environment, and also that makes you THINK about the environment that I am all in favour of. I far prefer the carrot and stick approach than the all out stick stick and more stick that this government asopt.

I quite agree, stick and carrot is more effective than just stick. I also like the fact that M&S will be donating the proceeds of 5P plastic bag to a charity, it show it s a genuine environment concern rather than a ploy to raise money disguised at concern for the environment.
