"Agroup of Canadian news outlets — including CBC/Radio-Canada, Postmedia, Metroland, the Toronto Star, the Globe and Mail and the Canadian Press — has launched a joint lawsuit claiming copyright infringement against ChatGPT creator OpenAI."

And so it begins...

I think if these media outlets are successful, we may see a lot more suing go on.

The article does mention that a case in the U.S. was unsuccessful but our copyright laws are a bit different from American, apparently.

News is being disrupted by social media and now AI. So, what?

If the media is such a fine curator of news and special interest articles --Paywall it and use the robot.txt file and exclude openAI.

There may be a legit copyright claim from past damages but how did, and does, the media learn to produce articles? By studying past creations and picking them apart, learning words and styles. Same with any profession! So, stop picking on AI MSM (main stream media) you are being hypocrites trying to line your pockets off the success of others.

Hypocrites....their middle name.

I'm not sure about your side of the border (I think it's probably the same) but over here, the MSM reports what the government wants them to, for the most part. Our broadcasting stations, most especially the CBC, are in part funded by the government and this government is particularly generous with handouts and has said that they (government) are investing in AI.

The ole, rules for thee but not for me.
