Melkior the htaccess wizard

Today while working I hang around DP and found tons of mod_rewrite help request. I gave them a link to Melkior's htaccess tutorial. I wasn't suprised they adored that

Due to Melkior my reputation points reached 30. So I am going to rep him to pass some green forward.

But the truth is I didn't know anything about mod_rewrite before Bagi suggested that the link selling app should be made more SEO friendly, and Temi agreed.
I understood the need for that, rolled up my sleeves and started learning about it.
The first thing I noticed is that most of the reading material I found wasn't understandable enough or wasn't complete and clear enough.
So I thought I'd try to share what I learned with you guys and make it simple as I could.
So in a way, both of you get the credit for this tutorial.

I think I will turn the tutorial to a sticky so that it will be easy to find in future, same with your register_global off/on explanation

Next week I'll probably be writing a few more tutorials and explanations just to help the forum grow. Try to make them practical and easy at the same time.
