How are you monetizing your forums?

Ad space to me seems easier and less work. Have seen decent results thus far. I don't want to build affiliates that may/may not pay off.

Yeah, looks like most of us are doing both. You know the sites are healthy when you can engage both revenue streams on them.

I am also using both techniques to monetise my forum. I used to only sell ad space but realised that some members are willing to upgrade their accounts to premium for a better forum experience. So I figured, why not? It can increase revenue as well as satisfy my members.

About premium membership, I have a question:

Do you offer "premium" content or access to certain boards which only "premium" members can access? Or do you allow them special privileges like posting affiliate links or promoting their sites with abandon on the forum?

If you don't have content which people would be willing to pay for, how do you get people to sign up as premium members?

It соuld bе а jоb bоаrd if yоur fоrum is fоr рrоfеssiоnаls in а givеn industry, оr it саn wоrk аs аn е-stоrе. Mеmbеrs whо аrеn’t intеrеstеd in аdvеrtisеmеnts will аvоid this раrt оf yоur fоrum, sо this wоrks bеst if yоu knоw yоur аudiеnсе is оn thе lооkоut tо mаkе а рurсhаsе (оr find а jоb).
