Original blog content vs. client's submitted content

I've got a current website/blog for my magazine, and working on another for a new magazine.

As you can see, both sites are comprised of original content, i.e. articles that I paid writers to create.

However, the Industry News section contains articles submitted by clients, which are most likely published on other sites as well. These articles are important, as they make clients happy, however, how much are they hurting my SEO score?
