Paid links and the risks

Hi

I have noticed that lots of webmasters pay hundreds or even thousands of pounds for a link on a high Page Rank site.

But, what if the owner of the site from whom they have purchase d the expensive paid link decides to bring down the site or is knocked over by a bus.

The purchaser would lose out big time, especially if he/she has spent thousands for a link.

Has anyone experienced this and lost money because of a site shutting down permanently?

Thanks

If you buy very carefull especially if you buy from an established and know company or individual this will less likely to happen but it cannot be ruled out completely.

I have bough "permanent links" on many sites that are not online any more :( I think I read somewhere that the average lifespan of a link is about 6 months.

I liken it to a pyramid scheme, you pay high price for PR in the hope that it will pass high PR to your site and you can also charge other people for adding their site to your high PR site :)
