Please Help Me Understand These Affiliate Links

Hi, Everyone!

I have these two affiliate links...both mostly the same except for slight differences:

EXAMPLE_URL==>>http://example.com/plugins/view/11/product?MyAffiliateID&amp;a_bid=d8b08b9a<<==EXAMPLE_UR

EXAMPLE_URL==>>http://example.BrandNameStandAloneAffiliateSoftware.com/scripts/imp.php?MyAffiliateID&amp;a_bid=d8b08b9a<<==EXAMPLE_URL


The former is a straight-up URL from a banner...the latter appears to be part of some tracking pixel (I don't really know what these are except that they have image heights and widths of just one pixel)...but that's all I know...which should I use for a text link??

Do you think I can simply create my own affiliate link like http://example.BrandNameStandAloneAffiliateSoftware.com/scripts/imp.php?MyAffiliateID and it will work just fine???

While affiliate links can take on a lot of different formats, each network will have their own formula as to how the links are constructed.

For example, SharaASale uses the following format:

Shareasale.com[insert banner/text id]&u=[insert affiliate id]&m=[insert merchant id].

These three elements (banner/text id, affiliate id, merchant id] tend to find their way into most affiliate links.
