Google PR update of a few days ago as usual excite, disappoint start a whole new discussion and debate, what do you think about this? Do you think this quarterly huha about PR is a load of rubbish? Cast your vote now

I voted it's useful but I don't lose sleep over it. As a reasonably new webmaster, I really had no way to guage whether or not I was actually heading in the right direction with my sites. Google PR actually helped me feel that I was doing something right and has been the only software app to do that so far for me.

I definately agree with Paul KY that it may not be all it's cracked up to be, but when you need some confirmation or some sort of sign that your heading in the right direction, Google page rank seems to be the easiest, and most publicly, widely available software out there. Especially if your a newbie such as I still am.

Respectfully speaking, my, "measuring stick" is in direct correlation with my checkbook. If my sites aren't earning money, then THAT'S when it's time to make a change, not when my PR fluctuates.

I voted yellow also.

unless your selling links on your sites, for people who want to raise their PR ;)

IMHO, people selling links on the basis of PR, is what's wrong with PR. It shows how easy it is to exploit PR for what it is, phoney.

Bad news for the link sellers: your days are numbered.

I don't think there is anything wrong with selling links based on PR or number of page in the site, etc. PR is just a 3rd party quality mark of you like so I see nothing wrong with selling links on the basis of PR.

And I think link sellers day are actually on the increase rather than numbered, if you look at some of the busiest sites online they are link sellers whether they sell link based on PR or on number of traffic delivered :)

Link selling based on PR is a fad. I see fads come and go, all the time. This is simply my opinion, but I surely wouldn't build a business model around PR based link selling. What happens when Google pulls their PR indicator? Ooooopps!

Completely agree with you that its a fad Paul, but while its still there use it to your advantage if possible, like you correctly predicted every fad always fade eventually :)

Hell maybe I should start charging for the links then, I do have reasonable PR on all link pages.

well i heard google is going to update the pr like quarterly, so it's worht less now right?

I'm not sure, have they ever had a set schedule for updating PR? It seems they do it now whenever they feel like it.

I think its now quarterly but no precise date or time of the quarter

That is an interesting news to me, I did not know its done on a daily basis. An amazing number of computer power must go into that

I thought everyone knew that. The Google rep, who posts at webmasterworld.com, told us that many a months ago, and continues to state this. PR changes constantly, as do the SERPS, but you and I only see it on the green bar about once every quarter or so.
