I'm not up on coding but maybe this explains something....
That's from their page source.
Edit: I didn't notice the word "tag" in that before. So, I give up.
When the new gTLD applications were made --many large companies paid the application fee of $250K~ to ICCAN to have their company name allocated to them as a TLD. That is how .google came to be.
It is called a TLD ( Top Level Domain ). For example, .com .net .org are TLDs. Few years ago ICANN made it possible to buy your own TLD. If it is available, and with a huge sum of money ( six figures ), you can get your own TLD if it is not already taken.
ICANN is the 'internet gods' the gTLS applications cost $245,000 plus the actual costs in assembling the application proposal.
With performance bonds the cost of the gTLDs cost $750,000+
No ICANN didn't pay for the name string --you applied to become a registry
ICANN-->Registry-->Registrar-->Domain buyers

Attention: "role based name" email prefixes such as support, webmaster, info, contact, forum, service, affiliate, admin, traffic, partners, marketing, etc., for our member accounts are not permitted. They are acceptable for a vendor listing, but not for the member email. This is due to bulk email processors scrubbing them for delivery due to extremely high bounce rates. If we discover you signed up with a role based name we will give you only one message to change it. After 3 days your account will be removed if the email is not changed.
