I noticed that Yahoo tends to use its name and website "Yahoo" to brand all its products, for example Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Instant messenger and so on but some of its rival like Google tends to have Google.com , Adsense, Gmail etc. I think Yahoo's strategy is the better one as it saves on all the headache associated with acquiring domain for your new ventures worldwide like Google is experiencing world wide at present.

Microsoft also seem to have just realised the benefits of Yahoo's branding technique as most Microsoft's sites such as MSN are now being made to associate more with the parent business.

Which of the two strategies would you say is the better one?

I'd personally go with the "one brand" strategy. It makes things cleaner and simpler.

On the other hand, Google is so well known that it can have several brands, and you still know it's Google.

Hmm i can see what your saying temi , but i would look at it like an old saying..

Jack of all trades, master of none

Not saying that this is the case but i like to put a spin of things so i would go with Google's strategy :puke:

I sort of like the one brand strategy, it makes thing much clearer, to some extent actually its a waste of money also potentially confusing for example Yahoo mail is yahoo mail in any country, in UK and a few other countries, Google could not get the domain name Gmail so they had to call the email service Gogglemail as oppose to Yahoo mail which is the same eveywhere in the world.

Very true ! i think im probably being a little bias as i don't like using any of yahoo's services , every thing could be much simpler than yahoo have made them, and also they seem to have lots of advertising everywhere.

I always like to think that google to start with had an objective to keep there users happy which in the long run would make good revenue (which it does) where as Yahoo has been business all the way and hoped they could buy there users (which has also worked)

I completely agree with you on the Yahoo placing excessive adverts on users interface, I dislike their email services for that, google is not innocent either, in my gmail account I see all sorts of offeres the moment I open and email

I like yahoo brand name too, it make thing and advertisement vey easy for them, one advert will cover all the brand products at a time. I think that is why yahoo is very popular to the local users.
