I've read somewhere that sitewide links, if detected on your site or found as inbound links to your URL can lower your ranking,

what do you think?

..

Excessive site wide link which can be show to originate form your action will hurt your site, for example free software like PHPLD and eSyndicate that makes users put site wide link back to their site are doing themselves more harm that good.
I remember a few years ago, Google banned back Template Monster for this (they usually get their affiliates to put site wide links back to them).
But Google is cautious when banning or penalizing a site for site wide linking because you competition can noble you by pointing site wide links at your site. So the penalty does not come in until Google is absolutely sure you are the one initiating this site wide links and not you competition trying to noble you.
I will say 10 or so site wide link or even more is okay, but when it’s in hundreds then you could be in for banning.

Good information temi.

I have asked the same question to a leading SEO , he said 1 link form one site is good.

Hi guys I am not expert but here how I am thinking , correct me if I am wrong

If a link is a vote from a site then one link should be enough. If a site has 6000 pages, a sidewide link will create 6000 links , so 6000 votes from a single site. The more vote the more good a site is should not be the criteria to judge a site's quality.

So what I feel if you consider the link value sidewide link should have less .It may not hurt , but it should not help. And I also think if a site get more than one links from relevant contents from a single site still they will have good link value and should be btter to have more than one.

I think what temi and bdseo are saying is both correct. Having few sitewide links as long as it is from relevant content sites, is not going to hurt, but having 100,000 inbound links from 5 sites (and nothing else), each of them sitewide, that could be a problem. I guess it is all about limits and ratios
