The lifestyle of a moderately successful affiliate is of a much better quality than that of a salaried employee. You are taxed as a self employed person, with all the tax benefits this brings. You set your own hours and you are your own boss. Affiliates are paid on the same day every month, one month in hand from the commissions which have been verified from the month previously.
There is no selling involved. Commission is paid per lead, not per sale (this is known as CPA marketing - cost per acquisition). Mentoring is an important aspect of the Affiliate Marketing School and there is a thriving and very informative forum. It costs nothing to join and nothing to run any of the affiliate marketing programs, all of which can make a lot of money for the person with the right skill sets and/or the ability to learn.

Affiliates will be required to build websites. They do not need to be able to code, as web editors (like Dreamweaver or Kompozer) are available which allow websites to be built using an interface similar to a word processor.
Coding skills will help, though.
In order to be successful affiliates will need to be diligent, tenacious self-starters with a will to succeed. Integrity and resourcefulness is also necessary.
