This is very important. So many businesses overspend on web marketing, and a worse sin is to buy/link swap with unrelated websites. Many who participate in any form of marketing will only have a vague idea of how their adverts are performing and others are just clueless about the whole promotion game.
If your ads are working, then roll them out on a larger scale, if not - STOP it at once and pull the ads, and use the other dozens of marketing strategies that bring 100, 200% return on your spend.
Advertising Tips:
1. Never advertise on a left hand page OR a left hand side of ANY page. This is bcos when people read, they read from left to right, their eyes are drawn to the right hand side, so thats where you want your ads - IN VIEW!
2. Never pay full price for an advert. Large companies (eg:VirginMedia) buy adverts based on readership/audience levels and hardly ever on the RATE CARD (which are overpriced anyway!), so you can and should negotiate the ad price.
3. Another huge mistake made is advertising in publications/sites bcos their competition does. This is insane! Dont think that bcos a competitor advertises, that their getting fantastic results - more likely to be advertising bcos EVERYONE ELSE IS, and its a case of copycat disease
and probably wont have a clue whether their ads work. So wont know if their ad is failing, yet keep paying year after year - and thats just chucking money away.
