Webmasterworld annoyance

I'm often annoyed when i search for something webmaster related on Google, and I get a result from webmasterworld, but when I click on it I'm reminded that its now a subscription only site.

Does anyone else encounter this? what do you think about it? Is it against google's terms of use?

I'm guessing they either allow googlebot to access the entire site, or google requests access to more popular paid sites like this. The first of those is probably more likely.

Rob,
I do not think its against google term of use, the resource is there, you just need to subscribe and then access it. However I recognise it can be irritating,
I think this irritation should make you and other senior members of this site help we create a better contents for this site so that we will be able to serve useful webmaster stuff free of charge :)

Webmaster world submit trusted feeds to google, which in essence is a licence to spam :( WMW is not the only site to do this, thousands also do it, like the times, WSJ FT etc. It is a bloody annoyance, ESPECIALLY as Google allows them to use the no cache tag which prevents you from viewingthe cached page. ;)

Personally I think it should be stopped, as it results in Google effectively acting as an unpaid marketing agency for subscriptions.

Same here, also they dont allow signature.

Personally I have no problem with no signature. I post on a few forums that do not have signatures, it doesn't bother me. What DOES bother me is when a forum where I have posted a lot on, suddenly alters things around.

One forum where I had posted about 1200 posts suddenly changed the site from phpnuke, to mambo or joomla. They just scrapped their nuke site, and deleted all my posts. This is deplorable behaviour as I would have liked to have taken that material and made it into articles, it was MINE, and I am furious over it.

<Rant over> ;)

It could be because they were hacked.

I've seen sites do this as well but I've never heard of a site going from nuke to Mambo, XOOPS or Joomla. There's really only one stable, secure and continually impoved version of phpnuke and it's available at ravenphpscripts.com as ravennuke .76.

On the flipside, I have seen plenty of nuke platinum and nuke evolution sites go offline permanently due to being hacked.

I think signature are somewhat important, at least ppl should know which company you are representing, btw deleting posts that can completely destroy the integrity of valuable threads.

What this guy did was to simply change direction of his site, and wanted a new look and feel etc. In short he lost the plot, and had the cheek to email me and ask if I would help him moderate the new setup again.
