For those who have a website, how do you make money with it?
There has been a trend lately where websites have stopped charging for their services and instead, tried to make money from advertising.
AOL has been giving away their software and allowing people to get free email addresses in order to try to capitalize on the ad market.

What about you guys??? Do you make money by selling services or are you making everything free in order to get visitors and earn from advertising only.

I make about 75% of my income from selling services, 20% from selling tangible goods and less than 15% from selling adverts. I suppose advert is very lucrative if you have a well know brand like AOL but if your site is called Haabaa, then you still need a lot of work to do to be able to live off your adverts revenue.

Not bad at all. You have a diversified source of revenue. That's good.
You don't need to be that popular to sell adverts. If you have a good amount of traffic, you can still earn quite some money from PPC services like adsense or buying ad space directly to advertisers.
Anyway, having a diversified source of revenue is the way to go if you want to maintain a living on the internet.

I am yet to crack it with Adsense, perhaps the keywords my sites are related is not particularly lucrative, I make about $3 a day from adsense, that is why I moved the adsense banner to a less visible spot on this site, I make much more money from direct adsales.

The source of my revenue from internet is based fully on website optimization. My site has really nice rankings for the hungarian translation of search engine optimization and search engine optimization thought I have very poor knowledge about SEM:D I usually pass forward those adwords campaigns to an adwords qualified professional person.

$3/day is extremely low. I read somewhere the dude who owns the digitalpoint forum makes tons of money on adsense.
So it is possible for a webmaster forum to make some serious money with adsense.
