What Makes A Good Forum A Great Forum?

There are tons of web forums on the internet. And to be honest,
I'd be the first to admit that I select a forum to join based
on a few critieria:
  • Post counts on each forum (I look for lots of posts).
  • Membership totals (I look to see if a forum has more than 5 users)
  • I select one forum to selectivly read for quality posts
What makes a good forum a great forum, one that you'd want to join?

I belive that i already found the best forums available out there. The first one where i registered was iwebtool, that time i was a nasty spammer but had the willingness to change the hat on my head so i looked for a space where i can learn the necessary lessons. After i while i received personal invitation to different forums from the owners. As far as i remember i still have Temi's invitation mail as well:D

To add to your list Martin, I am looking on the number of posts that were made "today" - I want forum to be active now, not 6 month ago.

I am looking for the number of posts with 0 replys - there is 2 reasons for it:
- no one cares to answer someones question or request for help (NO GOOD!!!)
- forum is a spamarama

In both cases there is no community behind that forum.

And of course it has to be "on theme"

I recently joined some webmaster forum that seems to have all good signs and pretty active but now I see that 80% of new discussions are anything BUT webmaster related...

Activity and quality for me.

I want to see lots of new posts on a daily basis, and I want to see quality debate going on. Simple as that really.

Quality and quantity posts ... that requires traffic and great mod's who will keep spam and flaming to a minimum.
