I think both have it's magic.
Forums are perfect for discussions, conversations, building community.
Blogs are excellent for building personal websites and writting 'what you have in mind' on things you want.
Both are very useful, depends on what is your aim...
I like forums more than blogs. And I have several reasons for that.
On forums I know that my contribution is appreciated. More readers comment on forums than on blogs.
My second reason is that blogs are hard to maintain. Content-wise that is. Starting a blog is easy but keeping it running isn't.
And the third reason is customization. Forums IMHO offer more customization possibilites and have more functions than a blog.
Anyway, that's just my opinion.
Quite righ melky, forum can also be in real time interaction between people, with blogs, you can comment but the blogger usually does not stay there hangging about for you comments.
Quite agree with you about each having its place, I started blogging because I don't want to be left behind but I am actually enjoying it now, its a way to let off steam about any issue I feel strongly about, I also use it for propaganda and to promote some of my other sites
