I wrote this article for my website and I think it will benefit members of this forum so I decided to paste the article here.

1. Mobile Friendly:
Google prefers sites that pass their mobile friendly test since it provides a better overall experience for their search engine users.a
Kindly visit https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/ to see if your website does pass or fail the test.
2. Page Load Speed:
Does your website load quicly? Reason being that Google prefer fast loading website because of users’ experience. A slow loading website makes the user to click away from it and and go to a fast loading one.
Kindly visit PageSpeed Insights to put your website to test and see if iit does pass or fail.
Red color means failed, amber means average and green means passed.
3. Is Your Business Listed In The Top 100 Local Business Directories?
Google loves websites that are listed in many of the top local business directories. A business that has taken the time to list themselves appear like a business that will be around for a long time.
These directories can send traffic to your website and Google also look at referral traffic when determining ranking.
4. Are You Setup On Social Platforms:
Google love websites that are listed on the top social networking sites like Facebook, Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn & Youtube, etc.
A business that has taken time to list themselves appear to be more brand aware and Google LOVES brands. Referral traffic can come from these social platform and since it is a ranking factor, it can help your website to rank.
5. Do You Know What Your Competition Do To Rank Online?
Knowing what your competition is doing online, the money they are spending, the keywords they are targeting and the effort they are putting in other for their website to rank can be tracked with online tools.
http://semrush.com will give you a great insigh into your competition and it’s great way to see what searct terms are sending them customers.
Head over to SEMRUSH now and compare your website to the sites of those you consider your competition. Take a business website of the companies you want to be like and analyse them and see who is crushing the market.
6. Is Your Website Optimised Properly:
Figure out the keywords you will like to show up for in Google.
Head to Google and do a search for those keywords and look at that top 10 positions. The blue text above the listing is called the “Title Tag”. Count how many of the top 10 have the keyword you just searched for in their title tag.
Check your website now and see if you have your keyword in the title tag. There are a number of their “Onpage SEO” factors that Google loves websites to have, the title tag is considered the most important. Read up more about heading tags, meta tags and other onpage factors that can help your website.
7. Is your Contact Information Easily Found?
Is your telephone number in a prominent position on the page? People do not like searching or scrolling to find ways to get in contact.
Make sure your telephone number is clearly visible at the top of the page, that it is in a font-size that is easy to read and color that makes it stand out in an obvious way.
make sure that you have a contact us page with your company name, address, telephone number and linkes to your social platforms.
8. Do You Have A Video Embedded On Your Website?
Visitors like videos and that is a fact. Having a video on your website will keep your visitors on your pages for longer
Google user lenght of time spent on pages to work out how good your website is as compared to others.
Having a demo of a product, a welcome message from the owner or an “explainer” type video of your services will keep people from leaving too quickly.
9. Are You Listed On Free Ads Sites?
Sites such as Gumtree and Freeads have a lot of visitor that are searching for local service providers, be sure to list your services on those sites.
The traffic these sites can send is very benefitial in terms of new business and referral traffic, which we know Google loves.
10. Do You Have An “About US” Page?
Introduce your business properly to your visitors with a well written pages that builds rapports and will hopefully convert the visitor into a paying client
Think of your about us page as “speed-dating” with your visitors. You only have a few moment to win them over and turn them from a browser and into someone that wants to utilize your services.
11. Are You Showing Testimonials On Your Website?
Think back to the last time you bought a pair of shoes, or researched the next book you wanted to read. Where did your search start? If you’re like any other consumer, it probably began with customer review.
Having a testimonial and/or reviews on your website will improve your business chances of making a sale and will also keep visitors on your website for longer. as they read or watch them.
Remember, having visitors stickaround longer helps because time spent on your website is a Google ranking factor.
12. Do Other Website Link To Yours?
This is really , really important when it comes to SEO.
If another website links to your website it is equivalent to recieving a thumbs up vote.
Google likes websites with links because the link building side of SEO is considered a popularity contest.
Not all links are considered equal,some are considered helpful while others are considered damaging.
Use Ahrefs: SEO Backlink Checker & Competitor Research Tools to check your link profile. DO you have a lotof links, hardly any or none at all?
Top Tip: Check out your competitors’ link profiles to see where their links are coming from. Building links on same type of websites that they have links from is advantageous for your ranking.
