1. Copying someone’s strategy without any analysis. If an affiliate shares their exact steps of sending traffic to a specific offer, he/she might be hiding some important points or it might not be converting that well. Spy tools, while useful, are also not to be blindly followed. Moreover, most top affiliates can easily deceit spy bots.
2. Ignoring affiliate manager’s advice. Some beginners are not comfortable talking to managers and don’t really understand how they can help you. Manager is one of the best friends of a beginner (and every other affiliate). Their task is to help you earn more by sharing their expertise in the field.
3. Being overconfident in knowing the target audience and not conducting any tests. Yes, psychology and neuromarketing can be useful at some point, but should not be used instead of testing. With $100 you can test around 5 creatives and several prelandings and find your own working scheme that you can then optimize and scale.
4. Making mistakes in setting up the campaign. You can drive a lot of traffic, but if your prelanding is not set up properly or the link to the main landing page is not working - that’s a huge fail. Before launching the campaign you should make sure that the whole funnel is functioning on both sides: your and the advertiser’s.
5. Not knowing how to optimize. We usually work with local offers and you don’t really have to look for best converting regions. But you will still need to form black-white lists for platforms. If you don’t know how to do that, choose a network with automated optimization.

Sometimes when offers don’t convert, the problem is not with the approach. It might lie in the traffic itself. We compiled a list of points to consider while choosing your traffic source.

1. Available payout models - choose what like most:
   - CPC (cost per click)
   - CPM (cost per 1k view)
   - CPA (cost per action/conversion)
2. Targeting options
   GEOs, languages, gender, age, devices, browsers, connection types, operators + if there are thematic or behavioral targeting (by interests).
3. Traffic volumes for the offer’s GEO
   Oh, this is a simple one. If the majority of publishers come from the US, you won’t be able to drive lots of traffic to Indonesia.
4. Specialization on certain verticals
   There are networks that specialize in porn websites and for them adult offers are more relevant. Others, however, might ban gray-hat offers.
5. Black/White-lists and auto optimization
   The network should be able to provide the option of switching off the non-converting platforms (where you don’t have any clicks/conversions). Some offer auto optimization (where this is all done automatically with the help of AI).

Free stuff! Make sure it’s highlighted as much as possible. A gift icon, gift wrapper, discounts etc.
Localization. If the creative shows a wad of cash, then it should be in the local currency. If there is a girl, choose one that is close in appearance to other girls from this country.
National holidays and events come in handy. Black Friday, Christmas, Ramadan - plenty to choose from.
Association with wealth and happiness. Show the user all the emotions from winning and upgrading their social status.
Real photos and videos. YouTube bloggers are there to help - find videos with unique content (like unwrapping boxes from local delivery services.
No distractions. The prize should take the central place in the creative. Minimum text. Focus on the button that leads to the landing page.

Funnels are not easy to build, we know that for a fact. It takes some time, money and tons of patience.

But not just that, you’ll also need to:
Choose a niche, traffic source and GEO. If you don’t have much money, start with Tier-2 or Tier-3 countries where you can have more traffic for future analysis.
Research your GEO in a spy tool. We’re interested in what offers are popular, the number of ads circulating and how old those ads are.
Pick 3+ offers for split tests using the metrics from earlier. It might be best to ask your manager for statistics of offers to get a better picture.
Make creatives. Prepare at least 3-4 pictures and 3-4 videos per offer.
Test the creatives, approaches, texts, pre landings until you find THE right funnel.

Launch 3-5 campaigns for each creative so that algorithms catch the target audience. Now let’s see the results:
CPC is high, but CTR is less than 1% - bad creative
Click2conversion - 1:2 and 1:3 is good
Conversion to install - 1:2 or 1:3 with CPC 0.1-0.2$ in Tier-2 and Tier-3
