Advantages of a Forum

A couple of questions in regards to forums:

1) What are the major benefits of having a forum?
2) How do Webmasters afford to run their forums?
3) What is the long term aim of forums.ukwebmasterworld.com

People start forums for different reasons, this reason to some extents determines the benefits and long term goals a given forum. How webmaster can afford to run a forum is also interesting.

Some people run forums just for the fun of its, companies run it to provide support to their customers, instead of posting the same question again and again you can just get you customer to do a search at you forum which you will hopefully have populated with appropriate answers and answer that are not there are then requested and added. For companies the cost of running the forum is just part of their marketing cost.

For individuals, financing your forum is down to you. Forum (small forums) are notoriously difficult to make money from, but if you can get you forum to become huge, then you can get some income from it but forum that generate income for their owners are very very few.


UK webmaster world forums falls somewhere in between the above explanations.... its a support medium for some of the product the forum owner created like Boss Cart, its also a source of advertisement for some of his other products and services.
