ChatGPT 4o Canvas is now a search engine.
You can see by the image below the dates on the websites it lists.
This is sort of an arcane subject but it did create a lot of search activity.
It appears that this AI read all those website's links and told me what relevant content was there.
Isn't that what people really want?

Does it show a different SERP and ask if you want it to search for what you asked it for, instead? You know, like Google does. Drives me nuts.

--it looks like the image (for now) the SERPs have all been relevant so far.
When there is a web-site I suppose that they will sell-ads.

ChatGPT --OpenAI know who you are by your interactions with it, better than Google knows you from your searches
--ChatGPT better understands your intent, if you are currently a subscriber with retained chats ...
So, will the ads be more relevant to your query or personal data that you have volunteered? That IDK.

But ChatGPT's learned data has become very current with the ability to search the Internet live now.
