Ahrefs released their new web analytics tool that is a lot more lightweight and privacy focused compared to Google Analytics.

Ahrefs' 'privacy-focused' analytics tool? Cute. They just want to collect your domain's stats to sell better data to your competitors. Bad enough we deal with GA4, but at least Google is under greater scrutiny for anonymizing data.

Yes, Ahrefs' Web Analytics tool is great for tracking organic traffic, backlinks, and competitor insights in real time.

Ahrefs' "privacy-focused" analytics sounds like a data grab. They claim transparency, but who's watching them? At least Google faces scrutiny. Another tool mining site stats for competitive insights—hard pass.

I'm testing it now on two smaller projects to see how accurate the data is. As a web analytics consultant, I’m mostly interested in how it handles traffic attribution and bot filtering, since that’s where most tools mess up. So far, the numbers seem more consistent than I expected, but still comparing with data from server logs to be sure.

Yeah, it's been a valued tool for us as well, along with a few others. Most of the traffic sources and networks have tightened up their efforts against bot infiltration pretty well, but we still need to incorporate additional tools as well.

that’s a smart move by Ahrefs, especially with the increasing pushback against invasive tracking. For advertisers and traffic buyers, lighter analytics tools that still offer actionable data—without violating privacy norms—are going to be key. On our end at ActiveRevenue, we’re seeing more clients integrate with privacy-compliant tracking setups via S2S postbacks or server-side APIs to maintain performance tracking without relying on traditional cookie-based models. If you're running campaigns or managing funnels, it's worth exploring how these privacy-first tools can still give you the insight you need without the overhead of GA.
