Conversion Tracking on Traffic Source

I've used the search function but could not find anything relevant for this.

My aff network has integrated my trackers post back url so its all easy set up. But the course I am following also recommends to set up Conversion Tracking on the traffic source.

Is method outdated?

You can also use a tracker to track, some have the traffic sources already in templates.
Like this example.

See all tracking tokens will populate for you.

But nothing stopping you from setting this up direct with your affiliate network using their tracking subids.

Be sure to pass {clickid} to your affiliate network using their subids available.
Ex: links
cake &s2={clickid}
hasoffers &aff_sub2={clickid}

Then place go2mobi pospback and pass back click id back from your affiliate network.
ex: cake

hosoffers
