Does my blog need to be live to join affiliate programs?

I'm making a travel blog and am trying to join affiliate programs such as hostelworld, skyscanner and amazon. However I'm having problems joining these programs for one reason or another.

My blog is currently in the 'coming soon' section and I haven't made it live yet. Is this potentially the reason for the affiliate programs not working? Or is it possible to join these programs without having a live website?

Is the site what you've told them your promotional method would be?

Usually they ask how you promote.

If that was how you told them you were promoting (the only way), that could hinder your acceptance, I expect.

Also, did you call them after applying? That usually helps.

Always try to have a phone call with them to talk about your plans for promotions. Be prepared to offer proof of concept as well as a history of any other successful affiliate program successes.
