I actually don't know. Downloaded the app a while ago to talk to friends in the U.S. but still haven't set it up or tried to use it.

MagicJack does but you'd only be able to use it once and it costs.

Then use TextPlus. I just used it and it works fine for me. Make sure you choose the number. And use the country code when you input the number.

Then try to change the IP to the USA and if possible use Facebook Apps for making accounts. There are several Android simulators which help you out.

I just watched a video about setting up a number for phone verification via BlueStacks and the TextNow app. You can pick your area code.
