Affiliates are not middlemen --they are gig workers (salespersons --CPA) that get paid piecework really.
Middlemen are people that broker --they deliver (ship) no product and collect no money for it. They are not merchants or salespersons --they represent 2 parties.
--in the case of payment transfer (merchant accounts they may deal with 4 parties).
Publishers either sell content like books (print or digital media) for cash; or publish articles and sell ads for cash payment (content monetization).

- Lead gen is just a marketing service in essence.
- 'Preinternet' 20+ years ago this was mainly done with telephone solicitation or print, radio and newspaper advertising.
Or, you hired door-to-door canvassers and paid them hourly +bonus for over quota lead production.
That's how we sold Window Replacement (home Improvements) in the 1980's - In lead gen your product is discounted by networks that resell your 'leads' to merchants of some sort.
- You can find lead auction platforms that take a small percentage fee --they work like RTBs with a much lower volume.
I looked into this in the past and did not see any volume to make this worthwhile --maybe you can ... - Alternatively, you could sell them direct to the merchant but scaling this is a real problem unless you have national or international buyers that you have contracted with directly.
