In that sense, you will be there in the longer run. Also, update the page that is ranking for the top spot with new ideas or new infos, google takes freshness in consideration too.

And also, try to rank your inner pages as well. It will boost up everything.

If you can make your content something viral and something that people naturally want to link too then once you have done the initial SEO grunt work and your site is ranking then people will find you in the search engines and start to naturally share and link to your content which will allow you to cement your place in the search engines.

This can be done by doing things like posting about products that are so damn cool that people just HAVE to share and link out to them or even posting hot and viral news stories that are related to your niche.
