I do think the .ai and .io are pulling weight. But you don't have to use them just because of the rising popularity. It's better to use what rhymes with your website. For example if you have a commercial website where people sell and buy services or things, then .com is the the perfect domain name for that. .com stands for .commercial . company

If your website is for an organization, then .org would be more suitable for it. If your website is a network .network is most suitable for it. But if your website is on the technology field or artificial intelligence field then .ai and .io would be very good for them. It would be weird to have something like pornhub.ai think about it
