Newbie - Desperate to Get Started in Internet Marketing

Hi there,

I would really appreciate a little bit of advice. I am hoping to get started in internet marketing asap and find the amount of information is just overwhelming. Unfortunately, I have a very small budget to work with and I have been looking at possibly doing CPA marketing via article writing. Would this be my recommended starting point or have you any suggestions.

Also, I stumbled across Peng Joons "Work From No Home System" this morning and according to the reviews I have read it looks really good. Can anyone who has used this system let me know if it really is suitable for a newbie and if so, how much do you need to invest to start making money.

I welcome all advice at this stage I have spent the last month reading, and reading, and reading. Can someone please point in the right direction.

Hi there! I totally understand where you are coming from. It can be a bit overwhelming sometimes when there is so much information out there! If I can give you some advice, FOCUS and take it step by step. Chose a company you want to work with and STICK WITH IT. Once you have done this, then identify what areas of the business you need help with. For example, if you find yourself having difficulty talking to people on the phone, find some resources for that. If you need help setting up a website, get resources on how to do that. Step by step. I tried to hasten the process at first and all it did was confuse me even more and I was not getting productive work done. I thought my business was not a good one, and I was constantly looking into other opportunities, but the actual problem was me not focusing on the right things. I learned how to do this and If I hadn't, I would have had the same problems with other business opportunities. Always keep your focus and take things step by step. You mention not having a big budget, well you are in luck because in network marketing, you absolutely can get started with a small budget. Hi Anne, welcome to 5 Star! I also can understand your feeling of "information overload." It's pretty common!

Personally, I'm a fan of having your own site and/or product as opposed to pursuits that don't result in you having your own tangible assets. Article marketing alone can work but in the end, you're not building up your own Internet real estate, so to speak, but rather the article directories' property.

That's not to say your idea is a bad one, just not the way I personally recommend for beginners. But if your budget is limited, it's certainly worth a try.

I don't know anything about Peng Joon, sorry.

I think you may be right on the FOCUS. I do need to break it down into small manageable steps at least that way I can see that I'm making progress. I suppose sometimes it takes seeing it written in black and white from someone else to actually realise that that is what you need to do.

Many thanks for the welcome and I'm delighted to be a member of 5 Star now. It's great to be able to talk to someone at last as I seem to be the only person I know who wants to do internet marketing.

I know what you mean about having my own website though and I agree but I'm not sure how long it would take me to produce great content to get traffic to the site and make sales. Actually, just wondering if those turn key sites are any good or is it advisable to go to Go-Daddy to get a domain and built around that.

I was thinking about article writing to start with as I am very new to putting pen to paper or should I say typing words on screen. Its a confidence thing as I am not used to people reading what I write.

I find that everyone is so helpful in the forum. I makes such a difference to talk to nice people who understand where you're coming from. I really do have the will and the drive to learn and I'm just going to take each day as it comes and execute my action plan.

It depends on what your overall goal is. If you want to make what they call "passive income" someday, you'll need to do more than article marketing, in my opinion. (Of course we know that "passive" income is a bit misleading, as there's a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes before you can make money doing little or nothing.)

In the future, do you want to build one major authority site and put all your efforts into that? Or are you thinking of having several smaller sites, maybe some review sites? Would you like to create your own product (such as an ebook or course)?

Once you can nail down what your overall goal is for the future, it'll be clearer to you where to start. If you do want to have your own web site(s) someday, I recommend starting now. You'll learn a lot more by actually doing it than by reading up and planning to do it.

Yes, it may take a while to make a reasonable-size site that gets some traffic, but it will only take longer if you wait to begin. Don't worry that people will see it and think poorly of it or you; until you put considerable time into promoting your site, very few if any people will see it. Plus you can always block the search engines till you're ready anyway.

You could buy a turn-key site if you're not interested in learning the "under the hood" stuff, although you'll want to know some of that anyway in order to maintain and add to it. Your mileage may vary, but if it were me, I would do some keyword research, buy a domain, purchase hosting, and get started on your own site.

You are right though about setting my overall goal, this will make it clear where to start. Also, it's true you learn a lot more by doing instead of reading and planning to do something. It's time for me to stop the procrastination and begin now.

It looks like turn-key is not for me as I really want to know the ins and outs of site creation and maintenance. I will take and act on your advice about the keyword research, buying a domain & hosting and getting started.

Just a word of warning: Try to bring one site to the point where it's profiting for you before you start another. From experience, I can tell you that will get you nowhere.
